My darling dressing Where Sono Bisque Wa Koi Wo Suru Doll in Original Japanese is a romantic, slice-of-life anime based on a popular manga series written by Shinichi Fukuda. It’s being adapted into the middle of anime by Studio CloverWorks, a studio that hasn’t quite had the best time of its existence right now. Question My Dress-Up Darling Episode 11

“Will They or Won’t They” has been a staple of romantic slice-of-life anime for decades at this point. It’s a simple way to extend the runtime of your show while developing the characters in the direction needed. Like most other tropes, there’s a right and a wrong way to include this in any medium, and your mileage may vary depending on your attachment to the characters and the obvious ship the show is going for.

Take, for example, the beautiful relationship that developed over the course of three months between Komi and Tadano, the main characters of Another Slice of Life show that everyone (including myself) couldn’t help to rave when he was on our screens, Komi Unable to communicate. This show also has many elements like this, ones where the relationship between the characters is heavily teased but not followed. However, it makes sense as a plot in this show, as both Tadano and Komi suffer from issues that hinder their ability to speak candidly and honestly in front of each other.

However, while it works in Komi-san, it doesn’t seem to work as well with My darling dressing. Gojo and Marin’s relationship had become stale after a bunch of episodes where nothing happened, and it hasn’t been able to recover since. New cosplays come and go, but their dynamic remains the same, and the two no longer learn and improve and just go through the motions of an almost typical slice of life. The show even cheekily references its status as an anime slice of life in the episode, which didn’t accomplish much other than a wink and a thumbs up to fans.

The story revolved around Marin and Gojo going to a love hotel to take cosplay photos, and just with this sentence you can guess exactly what happened in My darling dress up episode 11. Gojo was serious but embarrassed, Marin was carefree and confident, and the two spent all of their time focused on the task at hand. The only exception was a steamy moment near the end where one could have been forgiven for imagining the plot was moving forward. Unfortunately, this was not the case.

Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t a bad episode by any means (except for the part where they showed a 15 year old pleasuring himself). There’s just not much going on in it, but that’s mostly forgiven if there’s character development due to the nature of this slice-of-life show. However, that didn’t happen either, and we’re right where we started before the episode even aired. Needless to say, a lot hinges on this final installment, and let’s hope it lives up to it.

My darling dress up episode 11 was another mediocre installment in a series that showed it’s capable of so much more. Hopefully he finds some of that magic again when it comes to the finale.
