JR East Celebrates 150 Years of Railroading with a Special Stay in a Simulated Train Hotel Room

0

2022 marks an important milestone in the journey of the Japanese railway system, which this year celebrates 150 years of operation. In commemoration of the opening of the rail, JR East announced a special collaboration with Nippon Hotel, which focuses on hotel development primarily in the Tokyo metropolitan area.

The main part of the collaboration will see guests step into the role of a JR East train driver through the use of an in-room train simulator.

The train simulator installed in the room reproduces the visuals seen from the cockpit of a conventional JR East train line. Guests can select the visuals that will be displayed on the screen from one of the two lines; the Keihin Tohoku line and the Hachiko line.

These live videos are actually the same footage used by JR East’s trainee drivers. In addition, the audio output from the vehicle and the tracks come from real recordings and are played back according to the changes in the video and the driving operation.

In front of the screen, a control panel faithfully reproduces the “master control unit” used by JR East train drivers. This unit consists of a number of switches, indicator lights and levers which are used to control the acceleration and deceleration of trains.

By taking control of this unit, guests will be able to experience JR East train driving through video simulation and responsive speedometer.
