Japanese restaurant Susuru Juju hopes to open in Orlando in early 2022

ORLANDO, Florida – The owners of Susuru Juju are hopeful that the location in Orlando’s Milk District will be fully renovated and ready to go by February 2022.

The restaurant opens in a former Pizza Hut at 700, boulevard Maguire, just in front of the Fashion Square shopping center.

The company said there was a problem with the restaurant’s construction recently when the building was broken into. However, the company said the remodel is now back on track.

“The frame is finished and the drywall is in place. Construction is expected to be completed by February 2022, ”a representative said in an email to News 6.

However, they added that there were still necessary permits from the city to complete the facade changes.

“Since we are transforming the Pizza Hut building into a Japanese Shōwa-style house with attached wooden frames, we are still waiting for the city’s permit for the exterior cladding. We are so excited and can’t wait to show off Orlando Susuru Juju once it’s finished!

Susuru chef and owner Lewis Lin first announced plans to open the flagship location of Japanese restaurant yakitori in July.

Susuru’s first location is at 8548 Palm Parkway, near Disney World. The restaurant advertises itself as a “retro-themed izakaya (casual Japanese bar) serving Japanese tapas-style dishes, charcoal-grilled kebabs (yakitori) with craft beers and cocktails,” according to its Facebook page.

The Showa theme refers to an era in Japan that stretched from before World War II to the late 1980s, which saw an explosion of Japanese pop culture that also spread to the United States – such as Godzilla, Ultraman, Gundam and Power Rangers.

The JuJu in the name of the new restaurant refers to Japanese onomatopoeia for the sound produced by grilled meat, according to a press release.

The company said Susuru’s third birthday is imminent and that they are planning a celebratory event in late December or early January, although they did not provide any details.
