Ishikawajyushi takes over Eastman Tritan ™ Copolyester from Saizeriya Restaurants
KINGSPORT, Tennessee, United States, October 21, 2021 – Plastic moulder Ishikawajyushi has set up a take-back program with Saizeriya, one of the leading Italian restaurant chains in Japan, for its wine glasses, tumblers, beer mugs and decanters in Eastman Tritan.™ the copolyester can be mechanically recycled and reused.
Saizeriya, which sells affordable Italian food, has more than 1,000 restaurants and uses Tritan as a lightweight, shatter-proof and dishwasher-safe alternative to glass. Saizeriya returns her dishes to Ishikawa after two or three years, depending on her condition. The Tritan is recovered and transformed back into pellets to make check holders for restaurants.
“The durability of Tritan makes it the ideal material for repeated use,” said Tsutomu Ishikawa, COO of Ishikawa. “The use of recovered Tritan further reduces the use of resources and plastic waste. Saizeriya is a leader in the Japanese restaurant industry and is certainly at the forefront of sustainability.”
Tritan is durable, lightweight, BPA free and can withstand industrial dishwashers.
“This is a unique program in the Asia-Pacific region, and we are proud to work with Ishikawa, a family-owned company that places great value on quality,” said Courtland Jenkins, Commercial Director of Specialty Plastics for Eastman. “They have a lot of confidence in Tritan and are currently using it in ARAS, their own brand of premium tableware.”
Ishikawa is working on plans to salvage the Tritan plates and other products he makes for Saizeriya.
